Application Process

THE PROGRAM:

The Physical Therapy Program at Armstrong Atlantic State University is a full-time program. The program consists of nine semesters of academic course work, including three full-time clinical affiliations (with a minimum of thirty weeks of full-time clinical practice) and several additional clinical experiences. All program graduates are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination and apply for state licensure in all jurisdictions.

The information that follows is in effect for application for admission to the Class of 2013. These classes will begin Summer, 2010.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:

The deadline for consideration is December 15, 2009 for matriculation in May, 2010. The application and all supporting materials must be received by this deadline. Any application postmarked after this date will not be considered.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS:

Once Materials Have Been Received, the secretary for the Department of Physical Therapy will confirm their receipt via e-mail. This generally occurs with one week of receipt of the application packet. If any materials are missing, this will be indicated in the e-mail.

Once Materials Have Been Evaluated: A limited number of top candidates will be selected to enter the final phase of the application process: an on-campus interview. These candidates will be notified and scheduled for an interview, which generally lasts a half-day and includes: a group interview, an individual interview, essay writing, and questions and discussion with current students and faculty in the program.

Candidates whose application packets were incomplete or who did not meet minimum application criteria will be notified by mail. Those not selected for an interview will also be notified.

Once Interviews Have Been Completed, notification of admission status will be sent, usually within one month following the interviews. Students will either be accepted, offered a position on the wait-list, or denied.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS:

Clinical agencies utilized by the Department of Physical Therapy may require criminal background checks and/or drug testing prior to acceptance of the student into clinical facilities. Students who fail to pass either test may be unable to participate in clniical courses and therefore may be unable to complete their program of study. Any fees or costs associated with background checks and/or drug testing are the responsibility of the student.

ACCREDITATION:

The Department of Physical herapy is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The Program received full accreditation in April, 1997. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accredits Armstrong Atlantic State University to award associate, baccalaureate, and masters degrees.
