| Dr. Thompson has worked as
a physical therapist in the Savannah area since
1979 with experience in all areas of physical therapy
practice, especially musculoskeletal injuries, acute
care, and orthopaedic rehabilitation. She has served
as a Clinical Instructor and Center Coordinator
of Clinical Education for physical therapy students.
She also has an extensive background in clinical
administration, serving in hospital, outpatient,
and corporate physical therapy practices.
Dr. Thompsons teaching interests include
clinical education, documentation, reimbursement,
ethics, legislative issues, leadership, orthotics,
post-polio syndrome, and spinal cord injury.
She is certified by the American Physical Therapy
Association (APTA) as a Clinical Instructor
Trainer and Advanced Clinical Instructor Trainer.
She also teaches continuing competency courses
regularly on ethics and jurisprudence.
Dr. Thompson is very active in the American Physical
Therapy Association (APTA). She served as Vice
President of the Physical Therapy Association
of Georgia (PTAG) from 1998-2002 and as President
from 2005 - 2008. She serves on the Legislative
and Finance Committees and is the Education
Consortium Liaison. Additionally, she is a
member of the APTA Orthopaedic Section, Education
Section, Clinical Education Special Interest
Group, and the Section for Healthcare Policy
and Administration. She is also a Federal Legislative
Key Contact for APTA.
